Accelerating into an uncharted area

Nowadays, we’re jumping to Agile methods and rely on test automation to ensure that we can continuously integrate our products into a system to release fast. And in case of issues in the field, there is always the next fix-release as we are Agile. In environments that are known, but could improve on their performance this often gives impressive results, with their success stories are all over the internet.

But what if your system is not located on a server-park, is not only an app or not software only? What if your system is the first-of-its-kind in the world, with central management and individual control of 6000 luminaires in a 14 story, energy efficient office-building or 20.000 streetlights in a London suburb? Where uninterrupted availability of light is taken for granted? What if you simply don’t know all the details of the system behavior and the envisioned system is simply too large to mimic in a test environment? In an organization that is transferring from product-oriented to a system-oriented? While ensuring you stay ahead of competition?

This presentation gives a brief overview of such a journey, from a System (Integration) Test point of view. It will present the practical approach taken by a System (Integration) Test team to ensure that the product-oriented organization will survive in the future system-oriented environment. An approach ensuring that products and software are made with sufficient quality, minimizing the impact of issues in the field. An approach on how to accelerate in a, yet, uncharted area for an organization.
